The Elliott School and Columbian College Launch
New
M.A. in Global Communication
The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International
Affairs and Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, through its School
of Media and Public Affairs, will launch a Master of Arts program in Global Communication in Fall 2008. The new graduate program will help students
understand the complex global information environment, its implications
for governance, security, and business, and how to communicate effectively
to global audiences.
“This forward-looking program is an example of GW at its best:
two schools combining their expertise in an area of increasing importance
in the 21 st century,” said Elliott School Dean Michael E. Brown. “GW
brings unparalleled resources to this endeavor. We have a superb faculty
of scholars and practitioners who are recognized experts in global communication
and public diplomacy, a rich curriculum of courses, and a unique location
in the heart of Washington, DC.”
Peg Barratt, Dean of the Columbian College, echoed this enthusiasm: “By
bringing together the internationally recognized faculty of both schools
and exploiting GW’s links with Washington, DC, we can offer a unique
program focused on the process of communication, the subject matter professionals
must communicate, and the broader global environment in which they will
need to operate.”
The master’s program, to be directed by Shapiro Professor of Media
and Public Affairs Robert Entman, is based on core courses in communication,
media and international relations, international politics, and international
economics, as well as proficiency in a foreign language. Students will
apply these core courses to a specialization in a world region or global
issue. In addition, they will receive training in the professional skills
they will need as global professionals.
The application deadline for the new program is May 15, 2008. Details are available on The Elliott School’s M.A.
in Global Communication webpage. For Elliott School graduate admissions information, click here.
