Background:
Professor Ribuffo received a B.A. in history from Rutgers and a Ph.D. from Yale in American Studies. He taught at Yale and Bucknell before coming to GW in 1973. Ribuffo specializes in 20th century US history and American intellectual history. He is the author of The Old Christian Right: The Protestant Far Right from the Great Depression to the Cold War (1983) and Right Center Left: Essays in American History (1992). His forthcoming book, The Limits of Moderation: Jimmy Carter and the Ironies of American Liberalism, will be published in early 2008 by Yale University Press.

From December 2006 to January 2007, Dr. Ribuffo served as a Visiting Professor at Fudan University in Shanghai. In summer 2006, he was a fellow at Sophia University in Tokyo with the Organization of American Historians and the Japan American Studies Association.
