International organizations, organization theory, and ethics in international affairs

Background:

Professor Finnemore received her B.A. from Harvard, an M.A. from the University of Sydney, and her Ph.D. from Stanford University. She received GW's Trachtenberg Prize for Scholarship in 2006. Her research focuses on global governance and international organizations.

Professor Finnemore's most recent book, Rules for the World: International Organizations in Global Politics, (co-authored with Michael Barnett) investigates the power and pathologies of international bureaucracy, and won the International Studies Association's award for best book in 2006. She has also written National Interests in International Society and The Purpose of Intervention, which won the American Political Science Association's Woodrow Wilson Prize as "the best book on government, politics, or international affairs" in 2003. Her scholarly articles have appeared in International Organization, Review of International Studies, and elsewhere.

Professor Finnemore teaches courses on international organizations, organization theory, and ethics in world politics.
