Background:
Dr. Chen received her Ph.D. in Economics with a specialization in international economics from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2005. She also holds an M.A. in economics from the same institution and a B.A. in economics from Beijing Normal University in China. She also served as a consultant for the trade unit of the Development and Research Group at the World Bank between 2003 and 2004.
Dr. Chen's research has focused on investigating the impact of regionalism in product standards on both the patterns of global trade and the location choices of multinational firms. In addition to the field of international trade, she has also worked on patent protection and innovation, and addressed issues such as how extending patent length may trigger innovative firms' strategic delays in product development.
