Background:
Professor Allen received her B.A. from St. John's College and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.

Professor Allen is the author of The Hold Life Has: Coca and Cultural Identity in an Andean Community (Smithsonian Institution Press, 2002). She received a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship in 2001 for her research on cultural patterning in Andean art.
