Study Abroad
Other Programs
The following programs are unaffiliated with GW.
In addition to the Elliott School and GW offerings, graduate students can research and identify study abroad options on their own. Students may be eligible to transfer a maximum of 6 credits into Elliott School MA programs.
Students are required to submit a petition to determine how the credits will be transferred and should consult program directors or faculty major field advisors to determine how the courses fit into the Plan of Study. In order to earn transfer credit for unaffiliated programs, students should confirm that:
- the program is offered by an accredited academic institution.
- the program is a graduate or M.A. level course.
The following list gives examples of unaffiliated programs that past Elliott School graduate students have attended:
- Summer abroad programs offered by George
Mason University, American
University, Georgetown
University, etc.
Please note: summer courses offered by these institutions are not part of the Washington Metropolitan Area Consortium of Universities and therefore students must apply directly, and pay directly to the host institution. Students earn transfer credits for successful completion of any coursework. - Graduate Institute's Summer Programme on International Affairs and Multilateral Governance, Geneva
- Language, history, culture, and politics, St. Petersburg, Russia
- Jean Monnet International Summer Seminars: "Integrating Europe in a Changing World", Florence, Rome and Bozen, Italy.
- CERIUM

Enrolled students also receive a biweekly listserv providing updated information and new course announcements.
If you would like to suggest a program to be added to this list, please email Caroline Donovan White, Director for International Programs and Education.
