Study Abroad
Students in the Security Policy Studies M.A. program have a variety of options to study abroad for a semester, summer, or for other short programs as an integral part of their degree. It is important for SPS students to discuss their study abroad plans with the Program Director.
SPS students can earn up to 10 credits towards their M.A. degree while studying for a semester at Elliott School International Exchange Partners; the partners in Paris, Berlin, Geneva, Seoul, and Sydney have particular relevant courses for students in SPS. Each of these programs (except in Paris) has a full curriculum taught in English, with opportunities for language studies. Because of academic calendar of these institutions differs from that at GW, SPS students should plan to study abroad during their first spring semester or second fall semester in the M.A. program; study abroad during the final semester is not encouraged.
Students in the SPS program can participate in GW Summer Abroad programs. New programs are announced by GW each December. Finally, students may participate in other accredited study abroad programs, with the permission of the Program Director.
How can study abroad fit into your Plan of Study? Below is an example for a SPS student with specializations in conflict resolution and Asia.
