Returning Honduras to Democratic and Constitutional Order
September 2, 2009

José Manuel Zelaya Rosales, the deposed President of Honduras, visited The Elliott School of International Affairs and spoke to a packed auditorium of area students, ambassadors, professionals, and the media. Zelaya gave his perspective on the events surrounding the coup d'état that ousted him from power in June 2009, as well as the prospects for his return. Following his presentation at The Elliott School, Zelaya met with Secretary Hillary Clinton, a meeting that resulted in a U.S. cut-off of about $30 million in aid to Honduras. Hosted by GWU's Latin American and Hemispheric Studies Program and the Center for Economic and Policy Research, the event was reported in national and international news; some of the stories are linked below.
