Study Abroad Opportunities

Students in the International Development Studies M.A. program who have no international experience are strongly encouraged to participate in short-term study abroad programs, overseas summer internships, or similar experiences.

A feature of the IDS program is the capstone project that IDS students undertake in their second year. This project generally includes an overseas field work component. In support of this project, the Elliott School makes funds available for travel during spring break, with eight teams traveling overseas this year, two to Asia, four to Sub-Saharan Africa, and one each to Europe and Central America. Their projects cover a wide field, ranging from gender-based violence in Rwanda and marine conservation in Indonesia, to microfranchising in Kenya and food policy in Nicaragua.

Students can also participate in other accredited programs abroad, with approval of the Program Director.
