Core Field

The core field, which should be completed in the first year of study, provides the foundation necessary for understanding international trade and investment issues. The core includes courses in economics, history, and political science. In addition, students take a quantitative methods course to complete the core field.

Required Courses:

In their first year, ITIP students take the following four courses.

Econ 283 Survey of International Trade Theory and Policy

Hist 221 History of International Economic Systems

Econ 284 Survey of International Macroeconomics and Finance Theory and Policy

PSc 239 International Political Economy

Students should review microeconomics prior to taking Econ 283 and macroeconomics prior to taking Econ 284.

DNSC 274 Statistical Modeling and Analysis

PPol 211 Research Methods in Policy Analysis

Econ 123 Introduction to Econometrics

Stat 112 Business and Economics Statistics II

Stat 183 Intermediate Statistical Laboratory: Statistical Computer Packages

IAff 308 Applied Quantitiative Methods

Students are expected to have current knowledge of at least introductory statistics before enrolling in these courses. Consult the GW Graduate and Undergraduate Bulletins for the specific prerequisites of each course.
