Mohammad
Al-Jawah is from Cairo, Egypt. Mohammad received his
undergraduate degree from GW in 2004, when he received his Bachelor
of Science degree in mechanical Engineering. He received his
Master of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering
from GW in 2005 and presently is working towards his doctoral
degree at GW.
Jessica
Aresta-DaSilva
graduated from the Roger Williams University in 2008 with a
Bachelor of Arts degree. Jessica currently is working on her
Environmental Policy and Resource Management degree at GW, where
she began her studies in the fall 2008 semester.
Ethan
Balis currently works as an Elysian Energy Consultant,
and as a Seafood Choices Alliance Intern at SeaWeb. Ethan holds
a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St.
Louis, where he graduated in 2001. He currently is pursuing
his MBA degree and GW with a focus on Strategic Management and
Environmental Policy.
Ran
Bolton received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of California at Berkeley, where he graduated in
2001. He is working at the Center for American Progress as an
Energy Intern while pursuing his Master of Public Policy degree
at GW.
Nicole
Bratt works as a Systems Engineer and Analyst for the
Quedelta Corp. Nicole holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering
from Virginia Tech, where she graduated in 2002. She presently
is pursuing her Master of Science degree and Environmental and
Energy Management.
Steven
Burns is a Senior Consultant at Pace Global Energy
Systems in Bethesda, Maryland. Steve graduated from the Carnegie
Mellon University in 1997 with a dual major in Mechanical Engineering
and Engineering Public Policy and received a Maser of Science
degree in mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts
in 2003. Steve currently is working on his Doctor of Science
degree in Environmental and Energy Management at GW.
Allison
Bybee is pursuing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography
and Environmental Studies, with a minor in Public Health, from
GW, with an expected graduation date of May 2009.
Giuliana
Canessa hails from Peru. Giuliana, who serves as the
President of Net Impact (a student run environmental organization
at GW), graduated from the Universidad del Pacifico. She currently
is pursuing her MBA degree in Strategic Management and Public
Policy at GW.
Ariel
Castillo works for the SRA Corporation in Northern
Virginia, and previously worked for Northrop Grumman as a Strategic
Analyst. Ariel graduated from the University of Notre Dame with
a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2000 and received a
Master of Business Administration from the University of Dayton
in 2003. Ariel presently is working on his Master of Science
degree in Environmental and Energy Management at GW.
Rukia
Dahir works for the American Farm Bureau Federation
in Washington, D.C., where she holds the position of Public
Policy Assistant. Rukia is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts
at Amherst where she received her undergraduate degree in criminal
justice and legal studies. She currently is pursuing her Master
of Arts degree in environmental and resource policy at GW.
Kristin
Deason graduated from the University of Virginia in
1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering.
Since graduating, Kristin has worked in the Management Consulting
Division of PriceWaterhouseCoopers and for Intersect Software,
Inc. She has performed intern service with the American Council
for Renewable Energy and presently manages the hydrogen storage
support staff at the Sentech Corporation in Washington, DC.
Kristin currently is working on her Doctor of Science degree
in Environmental and Energy Management at GW.
Loren
Denton in an Environmental Engineer with the Office
of Air and Radiation at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
in Washington, D.C. Loren holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Biology from the University of Colorado (1990) and a Master
of Science degree in Environmental Engineering (1996) from the
same institution. He presently is working on his doctoral degree
at GW.
Jennifer
Fairbrother is a graduate of the Oregon State University,
where she graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree
with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Environmental Science.
Jennifer currently is pursuing her Master of Arts degree in
Public Health Policy at GW.
Stephen
Fields In November 2008, current E&EM doctoral
student Stephen Fields accepted a new position with the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office of Commissioner,
as an Operations Research Analyst. In his new job, Steve is
involved in assessing several key aspects of agency program
performance within the various FDA centers to identify ways
of improving performance to coincide with FDA's overall Strategic
Plan. He presently is working on three principal tasks. (1)
providing information and analyses to help agency officials,
the Department, and members of Congress make decisions related
to programs, policies, budgets, and planning (2) assisting FDA
managers improve program operations and performance, and (3)
disseminating evaluation results and methodological tools useful
to FDA managers and the public health community. Steve previously
worked with the U.S. National Institutes of Health as an Environmental
Engineer.
Randy
Force works for the Computer Sciences Corp., where
he works as a Project Engineer supporting NAVSEA. Randy holds
a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Miami University
in Oxford, Ohio, and he hopes to bring to bear his interest
in environmental protection to business matters as he pursues
his MBA at GW.
Rebecca
Freeburn
is a graduate intern at the LMI Research Institute. Rebecca
holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, Business,
Environment and Natural Resources from the University of Wyoming,
where she graduated in 2007.
Matthew
Gaviorno currently is seeking his Bachelor of Science
degree in Systems Engineering from GW. He is serving in the
GW NROTC program, and is schedule to be commissioned as a naval
officer in December 2008.
Mark
Goedde is pursuing his Doctor of Science degree in
Environmental and Energy Management. Mark holds a Bachelor of
Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Christian Brothers
University, where he graduated in 1979, and a Master of Business
Administration degree from GW, which he received in1983. Mark
is a member of the adjunct faculty at GW, having taught a number
of courses in the Department of Engineering Management and Systems
Engineering. As soon as he completes his course work, Mark plans
to work with the Environmental Protection Agency in research
related to the nation's crumbling environmental infrastructure.
Jean-Marc
Gorelick works as a Program Officer for the Campaign
for Tobacco Free Kids in Washington, D.C. He graduated with
a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bard College in 2002. John-Marc
has experience in working with the Peace Corps, where he served
for 27 months in Togo, West Africa. Presently, Jean-Marc is
pursuing his Master of Arts degree in International Development
Studies at GW.
Rachael
Gunaratnam works for the U.S. Chemical Safety Board
as a Recommendations Specialist. Rachael, who is pursuing her
Graduate Certificate and Emergency Management in Public Health,
is a 2002 graduate of Boston University, where she majored in
journalism. Rachael also has a Masters degree in Environmental
Management from the University of New South Wales, where she
graduated in 2006.
Akane
Hanai is from Japan. Akane graduated with a Bachelor
of Science degree from the Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan
in 2002 and presently is pursuing her master’s degree
in Environmental and Energy Management at GW.
Heather
Horn hails from New Jersey. Heather graduated from
the University of Miami (Florida) with a BA degree in Environmental
Planning and Political Science in 2004. She is working on her
master’s degree in Environmental and Resource Policy at
GW.
Patricia
Hutchins currently works as an Operations Research
Analyst in the Energy Information Administration, U.S. Department
of Energy. Tricia graduated from Colgate University in New York
with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Astrogeophysics in 2005. She
presently is a candidate for the Master of Arts and Environmental
and Resource Policy from GW, where she hopes to graduate in
late summer 2009.
Adam
Jachimowicz is an Emergency Planner with the United
States Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, D.C. Adam, who
is currently a doctoral student in the Crisis, Emergency and
Risk Management program at GW, holds a Bachelor of Science degree
in geography.
Kim
Jessen graduated from the University of North Carolina,
Chapel Hill in 2003 with a degree in International Studies.
Kim currently works with the SEEP Network in micro-finance and
enterprise development as a graduate practicum intern. Kim is
pursuing her Master of Arts in International Development, with
a expected graduation date of May 2009. Kim presently is conducting
research on access to water in Africa as part of her capstone
project. She expects to be traveling to South Africa for that
research in March 2009.
Christyl
Johnson EMSE Doctoral student Christyl C. Johnson recently
was appointed by the White House as the Executive Director of
the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). The NSTC,
a Cabinet-level council, is the principal means within the Executive
Branch to coordinate science and technology policy across the
diverse entities that make up the Federal research and development
enterprise. Christyl previously was an Assistant Associate Administrator
at NASA, where she managed earth science missions and conducted
research in remote sensing.
Christin
Kjelland graduated from Knox College in 2005 with a
double major in International Relations and Environmental Studies.
Chrisie, who worked for an environmental consulting firm in
Minneapolis from 2006 to 2007 and also spent a year in Korea,
is pursuing her Master of Arts and International Affairs at
GW with a focus on Natural Resources Development.
Brian
Krausz hails from sunny California. Brian, who worked
for a couple of years as a Physicist for two organizations in
California prior to coming to GW, got his Bachelor of Arts degree
in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley in
2005. Brian presently is working on his MS in Environmental
and Energy Management at GW.
Elizabeth
Krone graduated from Towson University in Maryland
with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2002. Elizabeth presently
is working on her Master of Arts degree and Environmental and
Natural Resources Policy from GW.
Greg
Kupka works as a Senior Environmental Health and Safety
Specialist in the Office of Risk Management at GW. Greg received
his Bachelor Science degree in Environmental Policy from Rutgers
University in 1998. Greg currently is working on his Master
of Science degree in Environmental and Energy Management at
GW.
Victoria
Lawrence is from the Caribbean nation of Saint Kitts.
Victoria received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science
degrees in mechanical engineering from Howard University in
the District of Columbia. She currently is working on her Doctor
of Science degree in the EMSE Department at GW.
Hope
Lobkowicz works for the National Environmental Trust,
where she serves as a Government Affairs Associate. Hope received
her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from St. Mary’s College
in Maryland in 2005. She presently is pursuing her Master of
Arts degree in Environmental and Resource Policy at GW.
Christiana
Ludlow received her Bachelor of Science degree in Geography
and Environmental Science from the University of Sussex in 2007.
Christi, who works in the GW Geography Department as a Research
Assistant, is working on her Master of Arts degree in Geography
at GW.
Jennifer
Lynette currently serves as an Environmental Scientist
with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington,
D.C. Jennifer is a graduate of the University of Miami, from
which she graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree
in Geology and Biology. Jennifer presently is working on her
Master of Arts degree in Environmental and Resource Policy from
GW.
Dulce
Helena Meldau hails from Brazil. Dulce holds undergraduate
degrees in administration and foreign trade, and a graduate
degree in business management, from FGV in Brazil. She currently
is working on her Master of Science degree in Environmental
and Energy Management at GW.
David
Merritt
works for the Federal Aviation Administration as a Researcher.
David will be graduating with his Bachelor of Science and Engineering
Management and Systems Engineering from GW in May 2009.
Kisa
Mfalila is from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She received
her Bachelor of Science degree in 1992 from the University College
of Lands and Architectural Studies in Dar es Salaam, and her
Master of Science degree from the Royal Institute of Technology
in Stockholm, Sweden, in February 2000. Between her university
studies, Kisa worked for six years in Tanzania as a Quantity
Surveyor, a position in which she has heavily engaged in cost
engineering. Kisa presently is pursuing a Professional Degree
(Degree of Engineer) in Environmental and Energy Management
at GW.
Dorine
Jn Paul Michel
is a Fulbright Scholar who is pursuing her Master of Science
degree in Environmental and Energy Management at GW. Dorine,
who is from Haiti, received her Bachelor of Science degree in
Electrical Engineering in 2004 from the Science Faculty State
University.
Antoinette
Nyomba is from Libreville, the capital city of Gabon,
Africa. Antoinette, who has extensive experience in environmental
and public health in various senior positions in the federal
government in Gabon, holds a Master of Arts degree in Biology.
Antoinette presently is pursuing her Professional Degree in
Environmental and Energy Management at GW.
Josh
Raeben obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Information
Technology from Syracuse University, where he graduated in 2005.
Josh currently is working on his Master of Science degree in
Crisis, Emergency and Risk Management at GW.
Alibek
Razakov
worked for the Ministry of Energy in the Republic of Kazakhstan,
where he served in the Gas Industry Department. Alibek graduated
from the Kazakh University of Economy and Management in 2001.
Presently, he is working on his Master of Science degree in
Environmental and Energy Management at GW.
Gizele
Richards holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Ecology
and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Connecticut,
where she graduated in 2003. Gizele currently is working at
the Security and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. while
pursuing her Master of Arts degree in Environmental and Resource
Policy at GW.
