Over the past year,
the E&EM program was fortunate to receive a visit by Elena Emelyanova,
a visiting scholar from Russia. Elena, who took our EMSE 225 Hazardous
Waste Management course in the summer 2000 semester and worked with E&EM
students and faculty in other ways, was participating in the U.S. State
Department's Junior Faculty Development Program. Her mentor
during the program was School of Business and Public Management Associate
Professor Mark Starik, who worked with her on several strategic environmental
management projects.

Professor Larry Hourcle
of the GW Institute for the Environment arranged the video conference
and also participated, focusing his comments on U.S. environmental education
policy.
