E&EM Lead Professor Jonathan P. Deason was elected in 2008 as a Member of the International Scientific Committee of the Urbenviron International Association for Planning and Environmental Management. Prof. Deason also was appointed in November 2008 as a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of the International Environmental Planning and Management Association.

E&EM Adjunct Professor Jigar Shah participated in a UN-Energy sponsored Expert Group Meeting (EGM) in Washington, DC on September 22nd and 23rd to provide input on industrial energy efficiency for the UNFCCC Climate Change meetings in Poznan. The goal of the EGM was to facilitate a focused discussion on industrial energy efficiency and its role in climate change mitigation policies, including some key technical issues in the on-going climate change negotiations. Professor Shah made a presentation to the EGM on the subject of financing for industrial energy efficiency improvements. In addition, Professor Shah taught a course titled “Sustainable Energy” at the School of Engineering Practice, McMaster University, in Hamilton Ontario, Canada during Fall 2008. The graduate level course attracted students from engineering, public policy, and the business school. The syllabus included topics related to climate change, carbon markets, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.
