Welcome to the Department of Educational Leadership (DEL). One of three departments in the Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD), DEL offers master’s, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. In addition to our academic programs, the department is involved in a variety of research and enrichment activities. Please join us in February for the Annual Educational Symposium for Research and Innovations (ESRI), a day-long event produced each year by our students and sponsored by the department's Center for Educational Leadership and Technology (CELT). Learn more about how CELT serves our students through its Dissertation Support Group (DSG).

The departmental mission is clear: to prepare exceptional educational leaders for careers in colleges and universities; state, national and international governments; and national and international organizations and museums. In our programs, students experience a combination of theory and practice, along with appropriate research preparation, utilizing our location in the nation’s capital—in walking distance from the White House, the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, the Smithsonian Institution, and many of the most important national and international education organizations.
Our diverse group of students is led by research-active and nationally/internationally renowned faculty members, who regularly present at important academic conferences and frequently publish their work in leading scholarly journals.
