Making
a Difference with a Gift to the Visualizing
Japanese Grammar project.
As you might know, the site Visualizing Japanese Grammar (VJG) was
developed almost entirely with uncompensated labor of Shoko Hamano and Wakana
Kikuchi of George Washington University. The site development took the
developers over 3000 hours of their own time.
In the past eight years since its
initial launch, the site has been accessed over 100,000 times from 163
countries and territories. The site has been offered entirely for free and will
continue to be in the foreseeable future.
In the meantime, the team has been
developing an expanded version of VJG. About 50 new units have been added so
far. When the project is completed, the sound quality as well as the timing
will be improved compared to the original version in response to some valuable
user comments.
However, the developers are running
against various obstacles. Official grants are difficult to come by for a
project such as this because research-oriented funding agencies do not
subsidize a web site development project, which this project is classified to
be. Unfortunately, unlike a decade ago, a drastic increase in other personal
and professional obligations has limited the time the developers can spend for
this project.
Hence, the developers would like to
ask some of the users to become supporters by making a small donation to the
project. This will allow the developers to hire technical assistants and speed
up the completion of the project. The completed site will again be accessed at
no cost to users from all over the world.
If you are willing to become a
supporter, please go to the
official GW site. When selecting the fund, please indicate in the comment
section that your donation should go to the Visualizing
Japanese Grammar project.
Thank you for your support in
advance.
