GW Welcomes 61 New Donors into its Premier Recognition Societies during the President’s Ball
“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
—Sir Winston Churchill
GW’s benefactors and friends who share an understanding of the power of philanthropy have supported the university’s goals through gifts and commitments totaling more than $81 million in fiscal year 2007. The university’s top donors—those who made gifts of $100,000 to $5 million—were recognized by President Steven Knapp during the first annual President’s Ball held November 15 at the National Building Museum. The Ball coincided with Inauguration week festivities.
The donor recognition event, hosted by the Board of Trustees and the Division of Development and Alumni Relations, includes an induction ceremony for new members of the University’s premier giving societies. This year, the University welcomed 61 new members into its premier donor recognition societies.
Honored at the President’s Ball were new members of the L’Enfant Society, for annual cumulative giving of $5 million or more; the 1821 Benefactors, for annual cumulative giving of $1 million to $5 million; the George Washington Society, for annual cumulative giving of $100,000 to $999,000;* and the Tempietto Circle of the Heritage Society, for planned gifts of $500,000 or more.
