The primary goal of the program is to prepare and train professionals as vocational evaluators who:
 

  • will facilitate consumer-centered rehabilitation, transition, and employment planning which results in self-chosen employment and career development;
  • will provide effective, innovative services in collaboration with individuals with significant disabilities;
  • will serve as practitioner leaders who positively affect persons with disabilities, agency services, and the profession.


    The program will focus on skill development in area typically required in vocational evaluation and assessment, such as psychometric testing, assessment synthesis and interpretation, community and ecological assessment, job analysis, work sample/situation assessment development, observing and recording behaviors, report writing and vocational profiling, team collaboration, multicultural sensitivity, assessment and integration of assistive technology needs, worksite accommodations, professional standards and ethical issues.  Attention will also be given to the:
 

  • administrative and supervisory skills needed to effectively develop and coordinate vocational evaluation and assessment services;
  • consultation and presentation skills to train staff and consumer partners and provide technical assistance, especially with agencies involved in systems change.


    Throughout the skill development process, an emphasis will be placed on field-based training and experience.  Upon completion of 75% of the program or receipt of the degree, students may apply for national certification to CCWAVES, the Commission on Certification of Work Adjustment and Vocational Evaluation Specialists under category "A":  Master's Degree Specializing in Vocational Evaluation.
