1. Contact the
program coordinator, Dr. Pam Leconte,
at (202) 994-1534, to schedule an informational interview.
2. Complete the
required application forms:
- The application
to the Graduate School of Education and Human Development, 2134 G Street,
NW, The George Washington University, Washington, DC 20052.
(To receive an application contact the School at 202-994-6160; there
will be a $55.00 application fee.)
- The Program
Application for All Special Education Graduate Programs: (Please be
sure to specify, in Section 2 of this form, that you are applying to
the program emphasis.)
3. Send your resume,
a letter of intent stating your professional goals and reasons for applying,
and a complete program application to the program coordinator
4. Have all official
transcripts sent to the Graduate School of Education and Human Development;
have copies of these transcripts sent to the program coordinator.
5. Submit your
score for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies
Test (MAT) to the Admissions Officer in the Graduate School of Education
and Human Development.
6. Request 3 references
and have each reference send a letter of recommendation to the program
coordinator. Send them along with other required materials (listed
above) in one packet to the admissions Officer in the Graduate School
of Education and Human Development.
7. It is important
that your credentials reach the appropriate offices. Please use
the following Application Checklist in forwarding your credentials:

REMEMBER: To
have your test scores (either the GRE or the MAT) forwarded to the
Admissions Officer, the Graduate School of Education and Human Development,
by testing agency. (Use the address listed above for the Graduate
School of Education and Human Development.)
Following the
completion of these procedures, the candidate will participate in a final
intake interview with staff which will be scheduled by the program coordinator.
Upon admission, a program plan will be developed jointly between the student
and the program coordinator.

STUDENT FINANCIAL
ASSISTANCE
Traineeship recipients will be determined through staff review of above
information and materials in conjunction with the applicant's professional
experiences, a writing sample, and his/her ability to meet the Graduate
School of Education and Human Development entrance requirements.
Students who are selected to receive financial assistance will enter into
an agreement to comply with Rehabilitation Services Administration regulations
regarding entering nonprofit public employment. They will also enter
into the Department of Teacher Preparation and Special Education policy
regarding tuition assistance, grades, and completion of courses.
