The
Center for Rehabilitation Counseling Research and Education
aims not only to enhance research, but to provide opportunities
for growth and development to a diverse population. The
Center has traditionally focused, as the name implies, on
research and education, and it will continue to do so. However,
the Center seeks to expand its efforts in the following
three areas: community research and education collaboration,
research utilization and dissemination, and international
involvement.
Involvement
of the entire community in these goals is not only desirable,
but essential. In addition to faculty, staff, and graduate
students, the Center would like to involve the undergraduate
community, as well as non-GW-affiliated community residents,
in these efforts.
There are
numerous opportunities for community research and education
collaboration in the area. The Center maintains collaborative
relationships with the N Street Women’s Shelter and with
the School Without Walls. The Center will investigate ways
to build these relationships by providing rehabilitation
counseling mentorships, and by conducting needs assessments
that will generate empirically testable questions.
