The Counseling Center offers services and programs to assist students with personal, social, career and study problems that can interfere with educational and career goals.

Key services offered by the Center include:

  • An online Academic Success Center with a variety of tools and recommendations to help students organize their time, develop effective study techniques, improve their memory, and increase their test-taking abilities.
  • Individual and group counseling to help students understand and cope with issues, such as academic problems, motivation, self-esteem, self-direction, anxiety, depression, and loss.
  • A referral service for special services not offered at the Center or for open-ended (versus short-term) counseling needs.
  • Academic Success Workshops on a variety of topics, including test-taking, stress management, organizational skills, and note taking, are scheduled through the semester.
  • Academic Progress Groups offering problem-solving and support for students who are unhappy with their motivation and academic achievement at GW.
  • Career development services, including career decision workshops and individual career counseling.
  • The Personal Development Program, offering access to self-help books, pamphlets, and audio-visual tapes to explore or research personal needs, interests, and psychological and health issues.

WRITING CENTER

The Writing Center provides peer tutors that work with students, faculty and staff at all levels of writing ability and any stage of the writing process.
