PRIVACY ISSUES
Confidential Information
It has been brought to our attention that some members of the university
community have received phone calls asking them to reveal confidential
information such as social security number, date of birth, etc.
If someone solicits this type of information from you, please verify
the name, department and telephone number of the requestor and report
the incident immediately to the Information Security Office at abuse@gwu.edu.
While this type of information is commonly used for legitimate purposes,
it can also be used to steal your identity.
It is very important not to reveal this type of information to
unknown or unauthorized persons.
Personal Health Information
The George Washington University is committed to implementing the
best practices associated with privacy and security of health information
to ensure the protection of its students, faculty, and staff, and
those served by its non-medical clinics, Student Health Services
and Human Resources and Benefits. For information regarding the

If you believe there is compliance issue or that your privacy rights
have been violated, you may report your concern(s) to the University

at comply@gwu.edu, or by writing to the University Compliance and Privacy Office
at 825 21st St. NW, Washington, DC 20052. Filing a report
will in no way affect the quality of service you receive from the
university.

Student Records
The university and its faculty and staff will protect the privacy
of student academic records as required by federal regulations.
Students of record in attendance at the university will receive
notice of their rights under FERPA by publication in the University
Bulletin, the Schedule of Classes and The Planner and Student Handbook.
