The Arabic Language, Literature, and Culture Program

Since its inception over one decade ago, the Arabic program at George Washington University has been growing steadily. It has attracted students across various academic disciplines ranging from Middle Eastern Studies, religion, and business to engineering and the sciences. Undergraduate and graduate students alike are attracted to the study of Arabic.

The Arabic language program at the George Washington University offers a multitude of courses comprising four years of language and literature studies. Due to rise in interest in Arabic studies, the program has expanded its course offerings in both areas of language and literature in the original language and in translation. Currently the program offers a Semitic Minor with an Arabic track and in the first two years of the Arabic language studies, student may opt to enroll in either the intensive or regular track.

The pedagogical approach utilized throughout the program is communicative—emphasizing speaking, reading, writing, and listening—in a learner-centered environment conducive to maximizing language use within culturally appropriate contexts.
