Vertebrate Phylogeny (BiSc 215)

Description: A survey of vertebrate phylogeny, emphasizing the basic relationships among major groups and their fossil records. Morphological and molecular evidence for the relationships of each group will be reviewed, and diagnostic characters of each group will be summarized. Laboratories at the National Museum of Natural History will focus on morphological characteristics of each group and their fossils. A field trip to the American Museum of Natural History will tour its halls of vertebrate fossils.

How broad a student audience is served by the course: Graduate students and advanced undergraduates from GWU (departments of Biology, Genetics, and Anthropology) and Howard University (Anatomy Department).
