Center for International Science and Technology Policy
Internships & Employment Opportunities
International Science and Technology Policy is a maturing field that focuses on the interactions among scientific developments, technological and social change, values and governmental activities at both international and domestic levels. This field is concerned with the ways in which professionals in industry, government, labor and non-profit organizations understand these interactions and apply their understanding to solve social and economic problems and manage scientific and technological systems.
Recent graduates often work in research, analysis, or management positions with titles such as research analyst, program or policy analyst, legislative analyst, or environmental protection specialist (in more specialized areas). Analysts are often employed with government agencies, advocacy groups (such as environmental), think tanks, science and technology-oriented publications, space agencies and other organizations concerned with scientific and technological policy as well as activities and impacts of those activities in this field.
Career paths in policy making, policy analysis, and policy research require different kinds of skills and capabilities as well as different kinds of training and orientation. Career paths leading to senior positions may differ. For example, senior executive-level policy making positions in federal agencies usually require scientific or technical credentials, whereas senior congressional committee policy making positions are more demanding of political skills.
The George Washington University's Career Center provides resources to help our students develop career and internship plans and connect them with prospective employers. What's more, Elliott school has a unique Career Development Team, which never stop working with our students from self exploration and career matching to networking and salary negotiate. The career development service are always available to help each student reach his/her career goals event after graduation.
The center locates only blocks from the White House, Department of State, World Bank, IMF, AAAS, and the National Academy of Sciences. This allows our students to work/intern full time during the daytime and attend the classes in the evening. The students also have rich opporunities to connect with professionals in the field through major conferences and seminars within the center and the Elliott School.
Employment data of the program in the pass a few years can be found in the reports provided by the Graduate Student Career Development center. Recent employers of our graduates are list below. The Space Policy Institute also also has an individual career page on the website.
