Global Health Service Fellows The Global Health Service Fellowship Program is designed to recognize academic achievement and service in the Department of Global Health and provide partial financial support to student Practicum experiences with international institutions that are partnering with GW’s Center for Global health. The program, which was launched during the 2007-2008 academic year, provides awards to approximately 30 Department of Global Health graduate students a year. Fellows are placed with partner organizations for the duration of an academic semester in one of two major areas: the Global Health Governance Project or the Institutional Learning Collaboration. Each location has been selected to offer Fellows the opportunity to experience and participate in various aspects of global health operations ranging from monitoring and evaluation to service delivery and program management. Founded on the principal of service, Fellows volunteer their time and skills to meet the most pressing demands of their host organization. With this experience, Fellows are better equipt to accelerate their career as leaders in global public health. The GHSF Program was launched through scholarship money from the Department of Global Health, a donation from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), and the W. Patrick and Rosie McVay Travelers Fund. Funding from WFP helped to identify and strengthen partnerships between health, nutrition, and HIV/AIDS programs in east Africa. The McVay Travelers Fund, founded by a 2002 graduate of GW’s School of Public Health and Health Services, was set up to support international internships for SPHHS students.
