RICHARD SKOLNIK, MPA
Richard Skolnik is the Director of the Center for Global Health at the George Washington University and an Assistant Research Professor of Global Health and International Affairs. Professor Skolnik has worked more than 30 years in the field of health and development. He spent 25 years at the World Bank, during 15 of which he managed important components of the Bank's health and education portfolios. Professor Skolnik has extensive experience at the highest levels of international health policy and program work in reproductive health, child health, HIV/AIDS, infectious disease control, and health systems development, particularly in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia. He was also deeply involved in the establishment of the STOP TB program.
Professor Skolnik’s recent work includes leading independent evaluations of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, the Global Alliance for the Elimination of Leprosy, and co-leading a review of the World Bank’s work on HIV in Russia. He is also a member of the Technical Review Panel for the Global Fund to Fight Against AIDS, TB and Malaria. Professor Skolnik is an advisor to the WHO on public/private partnerships for TB control and follow-up to the Commission on Macroeconomics and Health.
Professor Skolnik teaches an undergraduate course on health and development and works individually with graduate students conducting their final MPH project. He will also teach a new undergraduate seminar for public health majors. Professor Skolnik holds a B.A. degree from Yale University and a Master’s degree in Public Affairs from Princeton University.
