GILBERT KOMBE, MBBS, MPH
Dr. Gilbert Kombe is a public health physician with extensive experience in primary health care and public health in over 25 developing countries. He is currently the Senior HIV/AIDS Technical Advisor at ABT Associates Incorporated. He provides leadership to regional and country teams, USAID missions and host-country counterparts in assessing country and/or regional HIV/AIDS priorities, identifying health system strengths and weaknesses, and determining sustainable strategies to strengthen the health system capacity for effective HIV/AIDS service provision.
Dr. Kombe works with other PHRplus teams to assess costs, ability and willingness to pay for HIV/AIDS services, including anti-retroviral treatment and mechanisms to reduce mother-to-child transmission and assessment of human resource requirements to scale up HIV/AIDS services. He contributes to the applied research team in setting the research agenda, methodology and analysis of interventions to test cost-effective, feasible approaches to increase access to HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment services.
Dr. Kombe’s experience includes designing and implementing primary health care programs, providing technical assistance on health systems strengthening issues, and addressing human capacity development. He also has extensive experience as master trainer for primary health care managers. Furthermore, he serves as support group member for the Technical Review Panel, Global Fund for Malaria, Tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS and a temporary advisor to the World Health Organization on the management of Tuberculosis in East and Central Europe and Central Asia.
