ASHLEIGH ROBERTS BLACK, MA

Ashleigh Black is the Associate Director of the George Washington Center for Global Health. The Center works to advance global health by strengthening the linkages between science and policy. As the Associate Director, Black oversees the scholarly service program and manages the Center’s policy building work. Her efforts include building strategic partnerships and she is currently developing a Global Health Governance Project in 10 international cities hosting global health governance boards as well as an Institutional Learning Collaboration in East Africa.  In addition Black manages the global health communications advanced concentration and teaches courses on international policy and advocacy.

Prior to joining the Center, Black spent several years in the policy division of the United Nations World Food Programme. She was most recently working on the development of a global framework to eradicate child hunger and undernutrition.  Previously, she served as the Senior Policy Analyst at the Global Health Council where she led the Council’s work in the area of HIV/AIDS and governance of international health systems, including the Global Fund. Black gained her legislative experience working on the Senate Appropriations committee. She has an M.A. in State Management and Humanitarian affairs from La Sapienza in Rome, Italy.
