Culture in Global Affairs

About Us

Established in 2002, the Culture in Global Affairs (CIGA) program promotes the recognition of culture and its policy relevance to major world issues. Culture, or people's values and practices, is important to policy formulation in many areas including health, the environment, development, conflict resolution, women and girls, and ethnic and minority issues. CIGA promotes policy-relevant research on culture and supports dialogue and collaboration across disciplines. CIGA brings together scholars and practitioners from the US and abroad to enhance global knowledge exchange and communication with the policy community. CIGA's emphasis on concept in relation to global affairs and policy make it a unique organization in and beyond Washington, DC.

CIGA sponsors talks, panels, and other events to highlight cutting-edge research and respond to current events. In August 2009, CIGA launched its blog, anthropologyworks.com. It has been visited by many thousands of readers from over 100 countries worldwide and has gained a place as a leading source of anthropology and related news and commentaryon social issues of global and local importance. CIGA also opened a twitter account in August 2009, @anthroworks, which has nearly 2,000 followers from around the world.
