Regional and Municipal Manager Programs Overview The Certified Public Manager® (CPM) program is a nationally accredited leadership and management development program for government managers, who complete the 300-hour course in approximately one year. The curriculum is grounded in four general managerial and leadership competencies: general administration and organization, technical and quantitative skills, analytical and conceptual skills, and human skills. The program includes a required government transformation project, in which participants work in small teams to develop recommendations for improving an identified area of government service. The George Washington University Center for Excellence in Public Leadership offers two CPM programs, unique in the nation as the only programs accredited by the National Consortium for a local government and a region. The Program for Excellence in Municipal Management (PEMM) is accredited for the District of Columbia, and the Regional Executive Development Program (REDP) is accredited for the member jurisdictions of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. Those who complete the program earn a national trademark designation of CPM for certified public managers. The programs’ strengths—including the use of a cohort format to establish and strengthen a network of relationships across agencies and political jurisdictions—are widely acclaimed as best practices by the other members of the National Consortium. |
