A Message From Associate Dean Duff

An undergraduate education in the arts and sciences at GW provides the flexible skills and knowledge to enable students to succeed in an increasingly complex and globalized world. Columbian College offers 46 majors and 56 minors, as well 26 combined bachelor’s and master’s degree options—five-year programs to accelerate academic achievement.

Our curriculum offers the breadth and depth of a strong liberal arts education, a broad-based foundation of learning that is attractive to both graduate schools and future employers. It also offers educational opportunities beyond the traditional classroom in such internationally recognized venues as the Smithsonian, National Geographic, and the Folger Shakespeare Library.

First–year students can take a Dean’s Seminar with some of our most accomplished faculty members, or they can participate in focused learning communities like the Dean’s Scholars in Shakespeare. Sophomores have the opportunity to study with students in South America or Asia in the Dean’s Scholars in Globalization program. Juniors and seniors can partner with a faculty mentor to conduct collaborative research through our Luther Rice Fellowship program.

Our distinguished faculty and dedicated staff of professional advisors help students navigate the many choices and decisions that will lead them to the achievement of their goals. Please explore this site to learn more about the people and programs that make undergraduate study at Columbian College a rewarding learning experience.
