2009 SYMPOSIUM
Poster Design Contest
The
University Writing Program
and the
University
Bookstore are co-sponsoring a poster design contest for the Spring
2009 University Writing and Research Symposium, an annual forum for the
public discussion of student research and writing.
- The first place winner will receive a $100 gift certificate
from the University Bookstore.
- The runner-up will receive a $50 gift certificate from the
University Bookstore.
Interested George Washington University students should submit digital
files for their original poster designs by
5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30, to
gwu.symposium@gmail.com.
Participation in the Poster Design Contest is not limited to students
currently enrolled in UW 20. In your email, please also include your
name, campus or off campus address, email address, and a telephone
number where you can be reached.
Winners will be notified the week of Monday, April, 6th, and the first
place
winner will work with the Symposium organizers to finalize design and
printing details. Both the winner and the first runner-up will be
announced and awarded their prizes at the Symposium.
The
winning
designs from previous semesters are available on this site.
Information to Include
The following information about the title, dates, location, and web
address for the event should be prominently displayed in the poster:

Other Design Considerations
The poster design should also leave space to credit the
sponsors of the program (i.e. leave
space for approximately 250–300 characters). The design should also
include
The GW wordmark (
Downloadable
here; scroll down and click on "Wordmark Usage" to see what the
university allows and disallows. Use of the wordmark can take the place
of the above requirement to name the location). Finally, be sure you
have the
rights to any images
you use in your design.

2007 Symposium Director Caroline Smith
holds a program featuring the same design as the full-sized poster
behind her.
|
It's worth noting that the poster will be used in a few
different
formats: at the very least, a full size poster
(2' x 3'), letter-sized flyers (11" x 17"), and the half-page cover for
the printed program (5
1/2" x 8 1/2"). And so issues of design and legibility at these
different sizes should be taken into consideration. (We may ask for a
simplified version of the design for the program cover, which, for
example, wouldn't contain the sponsor information.)
We look forward to reviewing your designs!
