About GW Canterbury Club

During the school year Canterbury Club holds weekly evening meetings.  Students are welcome to attend as many or as few of the meetings as they wish.  Our meetings are informal and include a variety of activities from discussions and bible study, to watching movies. In addition to our meetings, which are great fellowship opportunities,  we participate in community service and other outreach projects in the greater DC area.

Throughout the history of the George Washington University the Episcopal ministry on its campus has taken many shapes.  In the fall of 2004 this ministry at GW once again rejuvenated itself.  A parishioner from St. Paul’s K Street renewed the idea of having a campus ministry for GW students.  A few college students began to meet each week for fellowship.  Although the students met at St. Paul’s, the Canterbury Club worked with in conjunction with the other two parishes close to the GW campus: St. Mary’s and St. Patrick’s.  In the fall of 2005, now under the leadership of a seminarian and a priest, Canterbury began to think on a larger scale.  Canterbury achieved official student organization status with the university in the spring of 2006 and will be student run in the future.  Canterbury continues to partner with all three parishes close to both the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses: St. Paul’s, St. Mary’s, and St. Patrick’s.

The mission of the Canterbury Club at the George Washington University is to proclaim the name of Christ.  It seeks to foster growth in the students of GW and to help them grow closer to God through fellowship and teaching in the rich Episcopalian tradition.
