Billy Crystal Headlines Colonials Weekend, Oct. 12-14

Pumpkin carving is one of the many activities at Octoberfest on GW’s Mount Vernon Campus on Foxhall Road.

GW’s sixth annual Colonials Weekend has something for everyone, including lectures, tours, music, arts and crafts, and performances by one of the nation’s favorite comedians. More than 3,000 are expected to attend the weekend celebration, which is sponsored by the Office of Parent Services, a division of Student and Academic Support Services.

“At Colonials Weekend, GW parents and caregivers have the chance to see how their sons and daughters have adjusted since move-in and can share the campus and the city with them,” says Director of Parent Services Rodney L. Johnson. “It’s an opportunity to be a part of Washington, D.C., in the fall as well.”

Tony Award-winning comedian Billy Crystal kicks off the weekend festivities with a live show Friday evening at the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center. Saturday morning at 10 a.m., GW’s new president will talk in “For the Record: A Conversation with President Steven Knapp.” Other events include the fifth annual Colonials Weekend Golf Scramble, the Parents’ Association Annual Meeting, and Octoberfest, an outdoor festival with games, arts and crafts, and fall desserts at GW’s Mount Vernon Campus on Foxhall Road. The night ends with another live show by Crystal.

The weekend events conclude on Sunday with a Jazz Brunch featuring the music of GW students and the Foggy Bottom/West End Neighborhood Block Party with food, music, and booths from local businesses, restaurants, and institutions on the Eye Street Mall.
