Bush Discusses Housing, Gore Focuses On Health Care
President George W. Bush chose GWs Media and Public Affairs Building
as the site to unveil his administrations plan to expand minority
home ownership Oct. 15. The announcement came during a conference with
the Department of Housing and Urban Development at GW. On hand for the
event were many members of GWs College Republicans as well as
President Trachtenberg and Student Association President Philip Robinson.
Former Vice President Al Gore addressed a standing-room only crowd at
the GW Medical Center Oct. 24. Gore spoke about health care policy and
its relationship to the war on terrorism and the potential war against
Iraq. Gore said the countrys public health system must be prepared
to respond to chemical and biological attacks. We need a new national
defense public health act to responsibly address this imminent threat,
Gore said. This initiative would not only act as a new line of
defense against bioterrorism, it would improve the way we prevent and
detect many other health care problems.
