October 2006 - The GW School of Business announces the addition of two new research institutes– The Institute for Corporate Responsibility (ICR) and The Institute for Integrating Statistics in Decision Sciences (GW-IISDS) – as part of its comprehensive strategic plan to foster academic excellence. These institutes were funded through the University’s “Selective Excellence” competition funded by the University’s Board of Trustees. GW has invested a total of almost $8 million in the signature programs since the initiative was introduced in 2003.

These two institutes were subject to a rigorous review process by a panel of deans and faculty members. “We received an outstanding group of proposals,” said Donald R. Lehman, executive vice president for academic affairs, who oversaw the process. “The criteria were stringent, compelling all candidates to address a specific goal of the University’s plan for academic excellence.”

“The ICR is a resource for the business and policy communities within the United States and globally; it expands our traditional focus on ethics education to engage a broader spectrum of society,” said Dean of the GW School of Business Susan M. Phillips. “The field of Decision Sciences covers a broad spectrum as well – and the GW-IISDS will work across the University, in an interdisciplinary effort that will encompass the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, The School of Medicine and the Law School.”

The Institute for Corporate Responsibility will focus on four programs – Peace through Commerce, Business Ethics, Environmental Sustainability, Corporate Governance, and Global Stakeholder Strategies through scholarly work, research, conferences, and the fostering of global partnerships with business and government.
