Dr.
Toftoy was a 1999 National Entrepreneur of the Year award
recipient. He was judged by Ernst & Young as one of the
top three Entrepreneurs (supporter category) in the Nation.
Earlier in 1999, Toftoy was judged as a Greater Washington
Entrepreneur of the Year. He has been elevated to the Entrepreneur
of the Year Hall of Fame as a lifetime member.
Charles
N. Toftoy is the Director of the Entrepreneurship/Small Business
Program and Faculty Coordinator for the Cooperative Education
Program at George Washington University (GWU). He teaches
full-time in the areas of entrepreneurship and small business
in GWU's School of Business and Public Management (SBPM).
Dr. Toftoy has extensive business experience: Raytheon Service
Company, General Manager; Lear Siegler, Inc., Director of
Marketing; PATCH Associates, President, and others. He has
worked in large, medium, and small businesses. Toftoy is a
highly decorated (wounded twice) U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.
Toftoy
has provided practical, hands-on management assistance to
over 1,500 small-mid sized enterprises in the Greater Washington,
DC area. He has conducted global programs for business people
in Eastern Europe, South America, and other developing countries.
He appears on Channel - 20 TV, Channel - 8 TV, and many other
TV and radio stations. Toftoy is heard on Voice of America
throughout 32 countries in Europe. In 1999, he was selected
as one of the Entrepreneurs in the United States to be interviewed
for a national radio show: "Entrepreneurs/Tour of America
- Living the American Dream". He has written regular
columns on small business for the Washington Business Journal,
consults to The Washington Post and writes for many entrepreneurial
magazines and journals.
He was
selected as a finalist in Ernst & Young's "Entrepreneur
of the Year" (Greater Washington) in 1997. Dr. Toftoy
has led the way for SBPM's entrepreneurship/small business
program having been recognized by the United States Association
of Small Business and Entrepreneurship for the following awards:
Best Entrepreneurial Program (in the USA), 1996 at MBA level;
Best Entrepreneurial Program (in the USA), 1998 and 2000 at
the undergraduate level - one of three finalists; Education
Pedagogy Award for Outstanding Contributions (best innovation
in the classroom) to the Teaching of Entrepreneurship, 1998.
Dr. Toftoy won the Graduate Teaching Award (Fall 1999-Spring
2000) - selected by graduate student body. He has won the
annual Undergraduate Teaching Award (selected by students)
five times and has been nominated for it every year since
1992. Success Magazine has listed SBPM at GWU as one of the
top 25 business schools for Entrepreneurs. He was Bloomingdale's
1999 Man/Woman of the Year first runner-up in competition
with 18 other local leading business leader nominees.
His Doctorate
is in Strategic Planning and he was awarded an MBA from Tulane
University, received his BS in Engineering from West Point.
Currently Dr. Toftoy is on the Board of Directors of the Restaurant
Association Metropolitan Washington and several other Boards
of profit and non-profit companies. He is a member of the
Greater Washington Board of Trade, DC Chamber of Commerce,
International Council for Small Business, the Private Industry
Council, Entrepreneur of the Year Institute, and others. Toftoy
is on the Executive Committee of the Academy of Management.
He is on the Board of the United States Association of Small
Business and Entrepreneurship (Senior VP - Professional Services
and Chair - Entrepreneurship Education Division).
