  Requirements for Completion of Program

An MBA student concentrating in "Entrepreneurship/Small Business" would be required to obtain a passing grade in two "core" courses as noted below:

MGT 291 - Entrepreneurship
MGT 292 - Small Business Management

A student who is interested more broadly in the creation of new ventures, including but not limited to technology-based ones, should take the core courses and the following course:
MGT 293 - New Venture Initiation

Beyond the required core courses, a student would be permitted to further customize his or her program by selecting courses, which emphasize "technology" as the driving force for initiating some small businesses. A student choosing this specialization would take:

MGT 235 - Technological Entrepreneurship and Innovation

The student would also take two additional courses listed below (or substitutes which are more specifically related to the student's career interests and which are satisfactory to the student's advisor and the Management Science Department):

MGT 214 - Behavioral Factors in Management Consulting
MGT 233 - Emerging Technologies

The student would also take two additional courses listed below (or substitutes which are more specifically related to the student's career interests and which are satisfactory to the student's advisor and the Management Science Department):

MGT 214 - Behavioral Factors in Management Consulting
MGT 290 - New Ventures Financing: Angel & Venture Capital
MGT 293 - New Venture (and E-Venture) Initiation
MKTG 242 - Buyer Behavior
MKTG 243 - Marketing Research
MKTG 246 - Marketing of Services
MKTG 250 - Selling and Sales Management
A student who does not wish to emphasize technology or startups would be encouraged to take the core courses but would not qualify for a concentration in Entrepreneurship/Small Business unless he or she also competed satisfactorily three additional courses from those listed above.

An optional course is provided, but not required:

MGT 294 - Strategic Entrepreneurship

It is assumed that MBA students choosing the Entrerpreneurship/Small Business concentration will acquire adequate knowledge of basic finance and accounting fundamentals through the core requirements for the MBA degree.

A student can include MGT 298 - Directed Readings and Research, which is an independent study over the course of one semester, in his or her curriculum.
