Undergraduate Programs
All undergraduates in the Department of Biological Sciences must fulfill the general degree requirements for the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. In addition, all Biological Sciences majors must complete Introductory Biology for Science Majors (BISC 11-12), General Chemistry (CHEM 11-12), and Organic Chemistry (CHEM 151-154) or course equivalents. The majors curriculum must include at least 3 laboratory courses and 4 credits from each of the following areas:
- Cell and Molecular Biology (BISC 102-112)
- Suborganismal and Organismal Biology (BISC 114-142, 182)
- Ecology and Evolution (BISC 150-169)
B.A. Degree
Additional requirements for the undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in biology include:
- Twenty-four credit hours of 100-level courses.
- It is strongly recommended that B.A. majors include:
- one year of physics (PHYS 1-2, 5-6)
- one course in mathematics or statistics
B.S. Degree
Additional requirements for the undergraduate Bachelor of Science in biology include:
- Thirty credit hours of 100-level courses
- one year of physics (PHYS 1-2, 5-6)
- one course in mathematics or statistics
*Note: The courses formally known as BISC 3 and 4 are now BISC 6 and 5 respectively.
