Auditions are not a huge ordeal - so stop worrying! GW Band members audition the first Thursday of the semester. Auditions consist of scales (Major and Chromatic), two minutes of prepared music (your choice - it can be a solo, etude, or band piece), and sight-reading. For percussionists, auditions consist of sight-reading and a prepared piece (timpani, snare, or mallets). If you are interested in Colonial Brass, there is a separate audition on the drum set.

The auditions are required of new and returning members each Fall. These auditions guide chair placement in the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and Colonial Brass. If you play more than one band instrument, please audition on each instrument separately.

Auditions for the 2007-2008 academic year will be held on Tuesday, September 11 from 5:30-8:00. If you do not audition, you cannot be in the band!

Auditions for the Spring 2008 semester will be held on a rolling basis beginning in January. Please e-mail band@gwu.edu to schedule an audition for the Spring semester.
