There are several professional societies in the field of cybernetics and systems theory. Many national societies are members of the International Federation for Systems Research, a coordinating organization which publishes a newsletter.

1. The American Society for Cybernetics (ASC), Pille Bunnell president.
2. The Austrian Society for Cybernetic Studies (ASCS), Robert Trappl president.
3. The Dutch Systems Group (DSG), Gerard de Zeeuw president.
4. The International Cybernetics Association (ICA) founded by Georges Boulanger (Belgium), Jean Ramaekers president. About 50 percent of the papers at their conferences are in French and 50 percent in English.
