"Through the accidents of history, these cultures had developed so differently from ours that knowledge of them could shed a kind of light upon us . . ." (BW 293)

In my opinion, this is a problem-solution that poses a new problem. It tells young anthropologists that there is much to be learned from the study of cultures different from our own, and that these differences are accidents of history rather than differences in heredity. Thus, a comparison between our own culture and that of others could be useful in better understanding ourselves.
