Gioia Chilton is a registered and board certified art therapist, and an artist interested in mixed media and altered art. She holds a bachelor's degree from Bennington College in psychology & sculpture, and a master's degree in Art Therapy from the George Washington University. Gioia conducts group art therapy for young people in foster care and staff trainings at the Adolescent and Family Growth Center in Springfield, Virginia. Prior to that, she established the art therapy program at Leary School, Prince George's County. She is a former lead Art Therapist at the DC Commission on Mental Health Services (formerly St. Elizabeth's Hospital) in Washington, DC. Gioia is a past president and current Ethics Chair of the Potomac Art Therapy Association. She served as Local Arrangements Chair for the American Art Therapy Association's national conference held in DC in 2002. She was then appointed as Conference Chair for the 2004 and 2005 American Art Therapy Association conferences, held in San Diego and Atlanta. In this position she was responsible for the production of the premier national art therapy educational conference of over 800 attendees each.
