Art Therapy at GWU

General Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a grade average of B or better.
  • GRE General Test score

Studio Art Requirements and Portfolio

  • A minimum of 18 credit hours in studio art are required for admission to the program for applicants for Fall 2006. Transcripts should reflect course work in painting, drawing, and figurative clay work.
  • Your portfolio should include several examples of your work in the above three categories. Your portfolio should be submitted in the form of slides or good quality digital photos on CD. 15-20 pieces are recommended. Your portfolio should demonstrate personal expression as well as technical skills in a range of media and subject matter (i.e., include personal art work not just class assignments.) Figurative work in two and three dimensional media should be included. While we do not favor one artistic style over another, we need to see evidence of representational work to be able to assess your ability to assist clients should the occasion arise.

Psychology Requirements

  • A minimum of 12 credit hours in psychology are required, including abnormal psychology, theories of personality, and child psychology or human development.
