
MFA FAQs How do I apply to the Graduate Program? Application is through the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences of I do not have an undergraduate degree in interior design; can I still apply? By all means: the MFA is a first professional degree program and it is specifically tailored to students with a BA in a field other than ID or architecture. There are classes that students will need to take before beginning the MFA: they are a drawing class, a basic design class and either two art history courses or the two decorative arts courses, for a combined total of no fewer than twelve credit hours. What are the Admission requirements? Student pursuing an MFA should hold an undergraduate degree in a field other than Interior Design or Architecture. Candidates for admission must demonstrate that they have successfully completed undergraduate study at an accredited institution of higher learning with a B average or better. Admission to the Interior Design program is contingent upon the successful completion of the twelve undergraduate credits (six undergraduate credits in basic and creative arts, and six undergraduate credits in history). Is a portfolio required for admission into the program? A portfolio is not required with your application materials, but it is highly recommended. If you do not have a portfolio you may want to submit examples of creative work in lieu of one. If I have a BFA, should I apply? Yes—if that degree is in any area other than Interior Design. Can I receive financial support? Yes, graduate support is available through the Department of Fine Arts and Art History, and other opportunities may be available.
