MFA in Interior Design: Students pursing the Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design participate in a course of study that is committed to the integration of theory and practice. This first professional-level degree program is designed for students who have an undergraduate degree in a field other than Interior Design or Architecture. The program centers on a graduate studio sequence that challenges students to respond to the diverse functional and cultural demands imposed by a range of complex issues, including those of form, function, technology, environment, and behavior. The studio experience is supplemented by research and lecture courses. Also required is the graduate practicum that provides experience in the field with an interior design firm, interior design divisions of major architectural firms, corporations, or the federal government. The MFA in Interior Design culminates in a final project presented to an audience that includes students, faculty, design professionals and members of the administration. Prerequisites (12 credits): three credits of drawing (FA 42 or equivalent), three credits of design (FA 22 or equivalent), six credits of art history (AH 31, 32 or equivalent) or history of the decorative arts (AH 145, 161 or equivalent).
