In what areas can I study at GW?

Master of Fine Arts in the field of Ceramic/Sculpture, Drawing/Painting, Interior Design, New Media, or Photography.

Is an undergraduate degree in studio art required?

Yes, a bachelor’s degree with a major in the field of Ceramics, Design, Digital Arts, Drawing, Film, Interior Design, New Media, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, or Video. 

Do you offer an MFA in Interior Design?

Yes, but as a separate program.  See the ID website: www.gwu.edu/~art/PRG_htmls/PRG_id_New.html

Must I submit a portfolio as part of the application process?

Yes, applicants should submit a slide or digital portfolio. 

Is fellowship support available?

Yes, the Department has a number of support packages that it offers to select students.  There are also named fellowships, including the Morris Louis fellowship awarded annually in painting and the Evans Scholarship.  For information see: www.gwu.edu/~gradinfo/ 

Are there grade point average or other requirements I must fulfill?

Are there lab fees?

Yes, all fine art courses require a lab fee of $35.00 per credit hour to support studio programs.

Can I take 100-level courses?

Yes, but only with the approval of the graduate advisor.

Can I repeat courses for credit?

Yes, but only with the approval of the graduate advisor.

Can I get graduate credit for a course numbered below 100?

No, graduate students may not get credit for introductory classes.
