Professor Miller is a cultural anthropologist with topical specialties in health, international development, gender, children, the household, cultural heritage, and policy; and regional expertise in South Asia.

Research

Professor Miller has done most of her research on gender and health issues in India. She has also studied rural development in Bangladesh, low-income household budgeting and taxation policy in Jamaica, and Hindu adolescents in Pittsburgh.

Current Research Projects

  1. Gender inequality and child sex ratios in India.
  2. Health and illness patterns cross-culturally especially as affected by rapid development and population movements.
  3. The role of culture in international policy and programs.
  4. Health effects of popular participation in cultural heritage programs.
