The Community: Doctoral Students

Eid Ahmed Mohamed

I have successfully passed my field exams and I am currently working on my dissertation proposal. This Spring I will be teaching a course entitled "Introduction to Translating Arabic." I am also performing consulting services for Gallup Organization in Washington DC. I provide Gallup with services that are related to what can be termed as 'cultural translation' to help Gallup analysts bridge the gap between their mother culture and the target one which is extremely important to Gallup's experts on the topics of polling and public opinion.

I have organized a panel for the upcoming ASA conference titled "Global Circulation of Images: Middle East Meets West in US Motion Pictures." I will be presenting my paper "Transnational Wheel of Images: Hollywood Makes a Plea for Mutual Understanding between Middle East and West." If there is one thing I have developed over the past two years, it is an acute awareness of the fact that the American Studies program at George Washington University provides an environment that is ideal to the development of my skills as a researcher and critic. I am always impressed by the research topics of many department members, which in many cases closely mirror my own interests. If you are interested in a cross-cultural chat, please feel free to email me at: eaam@gwmail.gwu.edu
