Joan Fragaszy Troyano

I am a fourth-year graduate student whose primary fields of interest include the history of immigration and ethnicity, the public understanding of history, and the history of photography. In 2007 I completed my comprehensive exams in Public History, 20th Century United States History, and Visual Studies. I currently am working on my dissertation, which will consider how historic and contemporary photographs circulating in museums, galleries, photo books, and popular culture influenced the understanding of immigration and ethnicity in the 1970s.

I graduated from Indiana University in 2001 and before returning to graduate school I worked as an AmeriCorps volunteer and at the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University. I have presented my work at the American Studies Association Conference and am a current member of the Association's Students' Committee.
